Data & Systems Visualisation

Overview

The aim of this project is to create a final artwork using personal life data—such as health metrics, screen time, or daily habits—as the foundation for a rule-driven visual system. Rather than designing based on intuition or desired outcomes, I developed a structured process or set of instructions that directly translates data into visual elements. The emphasis is on abstraction and non-objective representation, using the data to guide choices in form, color, scale, and arrangement. Creative decisions must emerge from the logic of the system, not aesthetic preferences.

Approach

  1. Source of Data: I used personal data from my Photo Library as the foundation for this project.

  2. Color System: The most frequently occurring colors across my photo library were extracted and used to establish the visual color rules.

  3. Visualized Data: The names of the ten most frequently appearing faces in my photo library became the primary dataset to be represented.

  4. Design Process: With these rules in place, I explored various abstract methods of rendering alphabetic characters, using system-driven design to guide the composition.
