Overview
This exploratory project delves into Ettore Sottsass's design philosophy, which emphasizes challenging conventional norms and evoking emotional responses through design. The goal of this website is to explore the question, "How can we challenge traditional notions of form and function in web design?"

Approach
Research into Ettore Sottsass's background, philosophy, and design was conducted. To apply his philosophies to digital interfaces and design, I focused on three main philosophies and translated them into their corresponding elements within the digital design realm.
Why Sottsass?
I was drawn to Sottsass because of his unique approach to design, which often defied conventional aesthetics. While his work was sometimes considered “bizarre” or “ugly,” it still resonated with audiences. I was particularly interested in his critique of functionalism, which I believe is still relevant in our increasingly commercialized world. I wondered if his philosophies could be applied to digital design to create more innovative and thought-provoking experiences.
Iteration, Iteration, Iteration
Throughout this process, I enjoyed experimenting with bold, clashing patterns and unconventional design choices that I typically avoid. However, I often found myself at odds with my natural inclination towards minimalism and modern aesthetics.
Final Product
Regardless of whether this project is viewed as a visually "successful" exploration, it was a good creative exercise for me to challenge my perception of design today and the bounds that we set on it. It's a skill I aim to keep working on and to push past trends that I observe. I believe that it's an important skill to possess as a critical design thinker.
