Type Rhythm & Movement

Overview

This exercise is to explore in a low-consequence environment, various ways that elements can be used to imply movement, and more importantly, rhythm within a design. The secondary purpose is to become comfortable with treating text and font as primarily visual elements.

Approach

  1. Going analogue – printing type and moving it randomly on a scanner

  2. Going digital – going on to Photoshop and Illustrator and playing with type

  3. Breaking the rule – breaking and stretching type to create movement
